Leona Lancial

Leona "Lee" Lancial, 77, of Rock Island, died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2009.

Services are at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7 at St. James Lutheran Church, Rock Island, with Rev. Janet Lepp officiating. Private burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park, Davenport. Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 201 E. 4th Ave., Milan. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 3727 Blackhawk Rd, Rock Island, IL 61201

Leona was born February 27, 1931 in Argyle, Minnesota, a daughter of Leo and Josephine (Sourdif) Gibeau. Her family moved to the Quad-city area in 1941.

She worked for many grocery stores in the area, A & P, IGA, and was head cashier at Eagle Foods. Leona retired from Marlins Wholesale Electric after 26 years, many of them as corporate secretary. In her younger years, she enjoyed dancing, boating, fishing, and camping.

On October 19, 1946 she married John Healy. They had two daughters. In May of 1965 she married Raymond P. Lancial. He died in June of 1972. Then in 1974 she met V. Joe Gilroy and they became great special friends for thirty years, until Joe’s death in November of 2004. She’s a member of the V.F.W. Post 1303, Ladies Auxiliary, Rock Island, and Women of the Moose, Chapter 168, Rock Island.

Family and friends to remember her are her sister, Dorothy Olson, Thief River Falls, Minnesota; sister-in-law, Edith Gibeau, Milan; many nieces and nephews; daughter (and spouse), Sharon (Ronald) Erickson, Roswell, NM; grandson, Steve (Lori) Medley, Davenport; great grandchildren, Ashton and Ben Medley, Samantha (Andrew) Wilbur; three great great grandchildren, Allison, Carter, and Garret; and a grandson, Robert Medley, Kan. Jeannie Reese, Davenport was like a sister to her. Luann and Gary Tregoning, Milan, and Betty and Junior Berhens were like daughters and sons to her. Steve Boyle, Rock Island, was also like a son, after knowing him for more than 38 years. She loved you all very much. Thanks for being in her life. She is preceded in death by her parents, and brothers and sister-in-law, Leonard and Armond (Katherine) Gibeau.
